Lightware Visual Engineering, a leading manufacturer of connectivity solutions for the professional integrated systems market, is strengthening the security profiles of its product range as collaborative applications continue to soar in popularity across the globe.

Isolated Ethernet Networks

With unprotected AV network applications, data is vulnerable to intrusions from the Internet. By separating sensitive data from Internet connectivity, all users of Lightware’s universal matrix switcher, Taurus UCX, can access the Internet without risking security breaches.

The Isolated Ethernet Networks (port-based VLAN setting) feature allows AV integrators and IT administrators to decide which networks are connected to the USB-C ports of Taurus UCX, as well as which networks the connected devices can use. By working in this way, connected devices can be separated from the corporate network, increasing network security.

The application is easy to customise and offers three modes:

  • Transparent: this is the default mode, with a network openly used by Taurus UCX and the BYOD devices
  • Separated BYOD: the network provided for the BYOD devices is separated from the control network
  • Dedicated: each connected BYOD device has access to an independent and dedicated Ethernet network.

“Hybrid, at the office and virtual meeting room environments are now standard for corporations worldwide but reliance on the public internet brings with it a need to solidify security,” said Gergely Vida, CEO, Lightware Visual Engineering. “The new Ethernet security features in Taurus UCX address the growing need among organisations to give employees the freedom to exchange information securely when connecting with BYOD.”

Vida added, “Lightware’s world-class signal management products are designed to deliver unparalleled quality, reliability and security in AV applications and thanks to this feature, we can assure that BYOD devices have only access to the assigned network. It was one of the key requirements from our customers, and we are more than happy to release this functionality.”

Data Diode Technology

Lightware’s data diode option, available in the HDMI-3D-OPT-DD series extenders, guarantees data confidentiality while offering systems integrators greater flexibility to secure their network when connecting to a diverse range of third-party devices, increasingly used in modern meeting rooms and collaboration environments. The upgraded functionality is available and ready to use today.

A data diode is a network device that allows data to travel only in one direction to guarantee information security. Most commonly found in extreme high security environments such as nuclear power plants and other electric power generation facilities, the solution is especially important if sensitive data is stored on a network which requires connectivity to the Internet.
