Ever since opening their doors in 1958 as a Sony distributor, Tokyo-based audiovisual integrator Totsu Sangyo (also simply known as Totsu) has been focused on the next big thing for the company—and the AV industry. Within 12 years of opening their first branch, Totsu had four more up and running. And less than 10 years after that, Totsu had grown from distributing AV equipment to marketing, designing, and installing it.
Today Totsu operates 10 branches around Japan, serving the corporate, educational, government, financial, event production, broadcasting, and healthcare markets. A PSNI member since February 2019, Totsu also became the first company in Japan to earn the PSNI Global Deployment certification.
And what’s the next big thing they are aiming for these days? Supporting multi-country and multi-site installation projects around the world by collaborating with other PSNI members globally.
Totsu’s Company Values Serve Customers Everywhere
According to Nori Nobukawa, Totsu’s Chief Globalization Officer, the company operates by the “Totsu Values” of providing a one-stop, full-service shop for AV customers.
“We don’t just provide our customers with system consulting and system design,” Nori said. “We also offer them custom product development, installation, customer training, and operation and maintenance support.”
They do it with a staff of 150 employees, plus a slew of professional certifications including the AVIXA CTS certification, the PRINCE2 Project Management certification, and manufacturer certifications from Crestron, Extron, QSC, Shure, AMX, Cisco, Microsoft, and Apple.
Totsu has put those certifications to use on thousands of projects in the history of the company. Since joining the PSNI Global Alliance a little over a year ago, Totsu has collaborated on AV installations with fellow PSNI members Diversified and Datavision.
PSNI Membership is one of the Best Decisions for Totsu
In a long and storied history in the AV industry, Nori said that becoming a PSNI member was one of the best decisions Totsu has ever made.
“Our most memorable moment since joining PSNI was when the whole company welcomed John Fuchs, Director of International Development and the founder of the PSNI Global Alliance, as well as his wife, Marsha, to our headquarters in Tokyo,” Nori said. “Akio Ohga, the CEO of Totsu, and John spent many hours over dinner discussing the global audiovisual and IT markets and trends. That experience really reassured us that it was one of the best decisions in our company history to join the PSNI Global Alliance.”
That decision has become even more important as the whole global economy faces the unique challenges currently being created by the coronavirus. Social distancing and teleworking instituted as a result of the pandemic have only increased the need and demand for AV solutions such as web conferences, digital signage, video streaming, and cloud data storage. And, Nori said, those needs will only continue to grow even after the virus stops spreading.
“Once it’s contained,” Nori said, “the audiovisual and IT market looks very promising.”
