Following the common thought that two heads are better than one, in 2003, the owners of Proline Audio Visual and Electronic Image Systems combined their resources—and their award-winning audiovisual experience—to create Avidex. And the company hasn’t stopped growing since.

In 2012, Avidex was acquired by Telerent Leasing Corporation (TLC), a subsidiary of ITOCHU International, Inc., a Fortune Global 500 corporation. In 2016, Avidex acquired Digital Networks Group to reinforce their share of the K-12 and higher education markets. Today, Avidex is the fifth largest AV integrator in the United States, as recognized by SCN. The company serves the corporate, education, and government markets, as well as the national healthcare market through its sister division Telehealth Services.

Avidex is an Integrator that Thinks Big—But Acts Small

Avidex operates five locations in the United States: Seattle/Bellevue, WA; Spokane, WA; Fremont, CA; Lake Forest, CA; and Cary, NC. But even as the company has worked hard to develop the experience and market share of a large company, they have also worked hard to maintain the spirit of a small company.

“While Avidex has grown to be a large company with several branch offices, we maintain a culture of camaraderie, creativity, and fun,” said Keith Donahue, VP of Corporate Marketing for TLC. “Many of our team members have been with the organization for more than 15 years, and they have helped us strengthen this culture even as we have grown.”

And, when it comes to maintaining this culture, Avidex does more than just talk the talk: they walk the walk, too.

“We recently launched a program called ‘One Company, One Team’ to focus on specific initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of our employees and their families. The program includes various additions to our benefits package, such as an annual paid ‘Day of Giving’ to encourage employees to volunteer in their communities, or weekly ‘Bring Your Dog to Work’ days,” said Jeff Davis, CEO of Avidex. “Avidex also hosts various team building and appreciation events throughout the year, from baseball games and paintball battles, to quarterly town halls and parking lot barbecues. Avidex invests in its people and works to recognize the team contributions that are made year after year to exceed our client expectations, maintain a positive work environment for our employees, and achieve our continued plans for company growth.”

An early member of PSNI, Avidex also takes advantage of the many resources the global alliance offers to support their company growth.

“We have incorporated many of these PSNI resources into our own business, including RAIN Sales Training, Next Gen Leadership, Global Deployment, CompTIA Assessments, Kaizen Training, Project Management training, as well as the various summits PSNI holds,” Jeff said.

In addition, the partnerships Avidex has formed with other integrators as a result of being a PSNI member has helped them take their expertise to projects all over the world. Last year, Avidex completed 3,200 projects, many of which were with multinational clients who expect the same level of design and end user experience at their locations around the globe.

“As a growing organization, we really enjoy the friendly cooperation and sense of community felt amongst our fellow PSNI members and AV industry peers,” Jeff said. “We have had many discussions about projects, technology, people, customers, and more with our fellow member companies, and that has helped us all grow and serve our organizations better. We’ve now done projects with various global partners and the experience has been great.”

Avidex has completed AV integration projects with HB Communications, Snelling Business Systems, DataVision, Data Projections, and Spinitar.

PSNI Members Work Together to Succeed in a Changing AV Landscape

To survive—and thrive—in the evolving AV market, integrators will have to keep working together to compete in a new way.

“The competition in the AV space is forcing the AV industry to re-examine the way we compete,” said Jim Colquhoun, CTS-D, CTS-I, ISF-C, VP Chief Technologist and Technical Services said. “And this will not only continue but accelerate. The AV industry must recognize the need to make changes in our skillset in favor of networking and software. Hardware is becoming less significant in deference to software applications and managed service offerings.”

And, as those needs change, Jeff said, “we are confident that we can work together with our fellow PSNI partners to meet the needs of our clients.”
