Like so many good things, Spinitar—a leading audiovisual system design and integration firm—was born over a round of golf. But the company’s story starts many years before those fortunate 18 holes.

The year was 1986. The price of gas was 89 cents a gallon. The Oprah Winfrey Show was in its debut season. Transparent watches were taking the fashion world by storm. And Jeff and Barbara Irvin had just founded Presentation Products in Santa Fe Springs, Calif.

The company started off selling the best the AV industry had to offer back then—overhead and slide projectors, lettering systems, transparency makers and film, easels and carts. But as AV technology advanced, so did Presentation Products. In the early 1990s, the company started selling LCD panels and projectors, and in the mid-1990s, Presentation Products started offering AV installation services.

And then, in 1999, Jeff Irvin invited his friend Jay Rogina out for a round of golf. Eighteen holes (and a few more meetings) later, Jay had joined the business as a partner with the goal of advancing the company’s integration and support services. And Spinitar was born.

The Secret to Spinitar’s Success? Employees Always Come First

Today, Spinitar completes about 320 projects a year, designing, building, and supporting high performance work and learning environments all over the world. The company operates out of five offices and two showrooms. Spinitar employees hold a collective 46 Certified Technology Specialist (CTS), nine Certified Technology Specialist – Installation (CTS-I), and six Certified Technology Specialist – Design (CTS-D) certifications. As a company, Spinitar also earned the AVIXA APEX (Audiovisual Provider of Excellence) certification.

But what Jeff and Jay are most proud of is the culture of fun and family they have cultivated at Spinitar.

“Culture is everything at Spinitar and ‘fun’ is the first word of our mission statement,” said Jeff. “We celebrate just about anything and everything around here, because we believe that a great employee experience translates into a terrific customer experience.”

Another hallmark of Spinitar’s team-focused culture is a quarterly all-hands breakfast to keep ‘Spinitarians’ informed about company news and developments. And, through the Annual Chairman’s Club, all Spinitar employees—not just sales staff—can earn a rewards trip to places that include Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and the Hawaiian Islands.

The Benefit of the PSNI Global Alliance? AV Partners Everywhere

A member of the PSNI Global Alliance since August 2011, Spinitar has expanded their team to include installation and integration partners around the world, as well. Just as positive employee relationships are the most important part of Spinitar’s corporate culture, relationships with other integrators and preferred vendor partners are what the company values most about the PSNI network.

“While there are so many benefits of affiliation and so many great memories from shared projects and PSNI events, we think it’s safe to say that the biggest benefit is the relationships with other affiliates and PVPs that we have been able to nurture through PSNI,” Jeff said, citing Data Projections, HB Communications, and Allen Visual as some of Spinitar’s collaborators. “We’ve been fortunate enough to make some great friendships with some really terrific people over the years. I guess as you get older—like Jay!—you begin to value the people in your life that much more.”

Those relationships also contribute to Spinitar’s positive outlook on the future. In a competitive AV market, the PSNI Global Alliance helps the company find new business, expand their reach, and increase their opportunities for success around the world.

“We think the future is very bright for Spinitar, and for our industry,” Jeff said. “Of course, remember that we are AV guys and girls—and that means we are eternal optimists!”
